Impact. Innovation. Intelligence.

Welcome to the 13th International Conference on Acid Rock Drainage 2024 to be held in beautiful Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

On behalf of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM), the International Network  for Acid Prevention (INAP) and the entire organizing committee, it is  our pleasure to invite you to the 13th International Conference on Acid Rock Drainage (ICARD 2024).  ICARD 2024 will take place in Nova Scotia’s beautiful seaside capital Halifax, September 16 to 20, 2024. Halifax is located in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People, on the East coast of Canada.

At the time of the conference, it will be an incredible six years from the last time we met in person, in Pretoria, South Africa and 12 years since the event was last held in Canada. The ICARD community can finally meet face-to-face to discuss real issues and find innovative solutions around acid rock drainage and its impact on the environment.  ICARD provides the opportunity for the mining industry, consultants, researchers, technology developers and suppliers, regulators, community and NGOs to communicate their perspectives on this important topic.

Supported by CIM, INAP and the Canadian Mine Environment Neutral Drainage (MEND) program, we are planning an extensive technical event, with daily invited keynotes, short courses, field trips, trade exhibits, poster session, student program, numerous networking opportunities, a social and tourist program, and an exciting conference banquet at an amazing Halifax venue. The theme of ICARD 2024 is Impact. Innovation. Intelligence.  The eyes (I’s) on the world theme reflect the approach the international community is taking to address acid rock drainage, bringing intelligence, to innovate for impact.  Sessions will cover topics such as Prediction/Geochemistry, Mine Closure, ML/ARD Mitigation, Water Management and Treatment, Guidelines and Regulations, just to name a few.

We look forward to welcoming the international community to Halifax, Nova Scotia, a city with a vibrant restaurant scene, beautiful waterfront, great history and architecture, museums, markets, harbour cruises and family activities.  The state-of-the-art Halifax Convention Center  situates in the heart of downtown, with the majority of its  fascinating attractions within a five-minute walk.

See you in Halifax in 2024!
